City Council Watch Party! (Waterloo)
We've got a big update on affordable housing policy in Kitchener!
The City of Kitchener is considering delaying their new Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) policy by one year, to start in January 2026 instead of 2025.
Inclusionary Zoning (or IZ) is an important tool cities can use to force developers to include affordable units in new buildings. If IZ is delayed until 2026, that would mean developers would not be required to include ANY affordable units in new buildings for 2025.
We need YOUR help! This decision will be discussed at the Kitchener City Council Meeting on Monday, December 16th at 7PM at City Hall, so ACORN members are planning a City Council Watch Party to fill the council chambers and show council how important IZ is for affordable housing!
How you can help:
- Register to speak at the council meeting and tell council to NOT DELAY inclusionary zoning! Click here to fill out the registration form to speak (ie delegate).
- Help us fill the council chambers - join us at the meeting! We'll be meeting up just inside Kitchener City Hall (200 King St W) main entrance at 6:45 and making our way into the chambers together
- Don't forget to wear your ACORN shirt or something red to show our power in numbers!
