Multiple residents in a Waterloo apartment building are determined to fight back against what they call unjust evictions.

About 28 people, mostly people who have lived at 145 McGregor Cr. for years, say the new landlord stopped doing basic maintenance like regular garbage removal, show shovelling, cleaning the halls and has doubled the cost of the laundry room washer and closed the storage units. The tenants organized a protest after one of them received a notice to move out because the landlord wants to renovate.

It’s been five years since Heather Clark and her three children were able to move out of a shelter and into a rental apartment building on Markham Road in Scarborough, managed by Golden Equity properties. Since she moved in, she says the property management company has done nothing to maintain the unit.

Around 50 Londoners gathered outside a low-income housing building managed by London and Middlesex Community Housing on Tuesday afternoon, rallying against pest control and maintenance issues at the property.

Tenants living inside a London and Middlesex Community Housing (LMCH) building are calling out management for what they say are degrading conditions. “Pest control is a major issue here, as well as maintenance,” said Sharon Villeneuve, 85 Walnut ACORN tenant Union leader.
