Non-sufficient funds fee will be limited to $10 in Canada starting next year

In one of its last acts in office, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government decided to give Canadians a break at the bank. According to an order-in-council dated March 12, two days before Trudeau resigned, banks won’t be allowed to charge more than $10 if someone doesn’t have enough money in their personal accounts to cover a cheque or a pre-authorized debit.

Hamilton tenants ‘thrilled’ after LTB blocks landlord’s renoviction attempts

Tenants at a Hamilton apartment building are no longer living under the threat of renoviction after a win at Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB). Beverly Hoadley, 87, and Amanda Dick, 42, were among the more than 20 people living at 103 Emerald St. S. who fought N13 eviction notices — saying there are plans for work at a building, like a demolition or repairs — there were filed by landlord Jon Pilon.

Committee delays parking decision for James South redevelopment but renters want ‘a solution that doesn’t displace families’

Tenants facing displacement from two James Street South buildings have more breathing room after a city committee delayed a decision relating to their landlord’s redevelopment plans. “The underlying issue is we want a solution that doesn’t displace families and people living in these buildings,” tenant Pamela Cooper said after the committee of adjustment’s tabling motion Thursday.
