Tenants Deliver Open Letter on the National Housing Strategy 2.0 to MP Offices Across the Country

ACORN and allies are demanding an inclusive, transparent process!
From September 3rd to 10th, ACORN members, leaders and allies like No Demovictions went to 14 MP offices to deliver an Open Letter addressed to Prime Minister Carney and Housing Minister Robertson signed by 17 tenant groups across the country. The letter states that the National Housing Strategy 2.0 needs to be tenant centric, and must include tenants and tenant organizations at the table.
Currently no information about the process for developing the NHS 2.0 or next steps is available to the public. Instead, consultations are happening behind closed doors.
The NHS 2.0 is a real opportunity for Canada to reverse course on many of the issues plaguing renters who are bearing the brunt of the housing crisis. With all Federal Cabinet Ministers being homeowners and 38% being landlords, we can’t expect our interests to be represented in Canada’s plan for the next decade of housing if tenants aren’t invited to be heard.
MPs in Vancouver, Calgary, London, Brampton, Hamilton, Toronto in 2 ridings, Ottawa, Waterloo, Windsor, Sudbury, Moncton, Fredericton, and Halifax all got the open letter delivered.
