Ottawa ACORN’s 2024 People Power Party!!
Posted December 23, 2024
Ottawa ACORN’s “People Power Party” was a lively year-end celebration! Almost 60 members gathered to honor the hard-fought wins and progress made throughout 2024.
The event kicked off with some powerful chants that woke everyone right up! We went over the highlights of 2024—including stopping multiple renovictions, launching the Eco-Tenant platform, and forming new tenant unions—then everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner.
Special shoutouts go to Sara Laviolette and Marie-Lourdes Garnier, who hosted the event and kept the energy high throughout the evening. Their leadership was key in making this event such a success.
The party also featured an awards ceremony to recognize members’ outstanding efforts including special awards for outreach, media, tenant rights, and climate justice.
The event wrapped up with a fun raffle, karaoke, and mingling, all to celebrate ACORN’s mission to keep building people power and fighting for justice in 2025.
Thank you to our guest speakers:
- City Councillor Sean Devine (Ward 9, Knoxdale-Merivale)
- Stephen Skoutajan, President of the Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Teachers’ Federation
- James Harden and Lili-Anne Kondo from Community Legal Services Ottawa
- Chandra Pasma, MPP for Ottawa West-Nepean
- Joel Harden, MPP for Ottawa-Centre
The People Power Party wasn’t just a celebration—it was a powerful reminder of how united ACORN members are in the pursuit of justice for all!
