Toronto ACORN Rally for Inclusionary Zoning

Great rally at City Hall yesterday for affordable housing. 50+ people came out ahead of an important vote on Thursday to require affordable housing in all new developments.

ACORN members are demanding 20% to 30% of all new developments as permanent, deeply affordable, rental housing. Which is totally possible based on studies by the city. However, the proposed policy will only require 5% to 10% in condos and 0% in rental buildings.

Councillor Mike Layton, Social Planning Toronto, Parkdale People’s Economy, and others joined us to fight for something much bolder.

ACORN members will depute at the Planning and Housing Committee on October 28th, and continue to push City Council until the final vote in early November!
