Surrey ACORN holds a Save Our Co-op, Save Our Homes Day of Action
Posted November 3, 2026
Residents of the Mayflower Co-op in North Surrey have not only joined ACORN en masse, they have taken the lead on the North Surrey ACORN reorganization drive!
Led by new ACORN powerhouse Brandi Murphy, ACORN held a Day of Action calling on newly inaugurated Mayor McCallum to play a leading role in ensuring that BC Housing and the BC government restore plans to build a new co-op to replace the existing Mayflower Co-op as it is slated for redevelopment.
Tenants unfurled ACORN “Save Our Co-op” banners over the sides of their balconies, which directly face Surrey City Hall, on inauguration day for Mayor McCallum.
In the afternoon, Murphy and other Mayflower Co-op ACORN reps held a press conference at the building and connected with Surrey Now-Leader journalists who have been covering their increasingly visible fight.
After the press conference, ACORN made their way to City Hall for Mayor McCallum’s inauguration to add urgency to their call for representation from the newly elected council.
After talking with TV cameras from Global News covering the inauguration, the Day of Action was done.
What is happening to residents at Mayflower Co-op is happening to tenants across North Surrey. Communities are being displaced for redevelopment, and ACORN’s organizing drive and fight to save our homes is there to stop it from happening!
