Rally for Deeply Affordable Housing in Lebreton Flats
Posted May 13, 2024
This week, ACORN marched down the streets of downtown Ottawa handing out hundreds of flyers and chanting all the way down to the National Capital Commission (NCC)! The NCC announced that they will lease PUBLIC LAND to corporate developers COGIR and Avenue 31 – all while we are in a housing crisis! SHAMEFUL! That’s why ACORN delivered a letter to the NCC to demand that the latest parcel of land at Lebreton Flats is DEEPLY affordable, is rent controlled including vacancy control and that the NCC works with Non-Profit housing providers, land trusts, and co-ops instead. Public land needs to be for public interest, not for corporate landlords to turn a profit! Big shoutout to ACORN leaders Alex McDonald and Sharon Katz for running a great March. Thank you to HORIZON for joining us in support!
