Ottawa ACORN Members Show Out for Bi-Weekly Municipal Election Outreach Parties

Posted August 30, 2022

Last Saturday, August 27th, seven Ottawa ACORN members met in the Vanier community for the second bi-weekly #Agenda4Change Municipal Election Outreach Party! We had great weather and an awesome day door knocking, flyering, and street petitioning! Our leaders, Evan and Pat, did an amazing job running the agenda and all members did great as we collected 30 petition signatures for the Agenda for Change.

Why do outreach? Outreach parties offer a unique opportunity to connect with neighbours and the community about the most important issues that affect their day-to-day lives like housing, transit, childcare and more! The more people we reach, the more likely we can create the change we want to see across the city of Ottawa.

We will be doing member outreach parties every other Saturday for the duration of the election cycle (Now-Oct. 24th)! Join us at our next Outreach Party on Saturday, September 10th from 11:30-3:00, at Gil O Julien park, which is 201 Donald St.

What is the Agenda for Change? It is Ottawa ACORN’s grassroots municipal election campaign. We are getting out the vote in low income and working class neighbourhoods and asking candidates to endorse our Platform of Issues to ensure that potential councillors support the progressive issues our ACORN members care about. We sent out our platform through a candidates survey and are waiting back on the responses from the candidates before releasing the results. We will share candidates’ responses before October 24th with our membership so they can make informed decisions at the polling station.
