Calgary ACORN’s Day of Meetings and Protests for Tenant Rights and Affordable Housing
Posted August 21, 2023
On Thursday, August 17, 2023 Calgary ACORN had a jam packed day full of meetings and actions!
First ACORN met with newly appointed opposition NDP housing critic MLA Janis Irwin and MLA Joe Ceci to talk about the need for rent control and tenant protections in Alberta.
Calgary’s rents are currently rising faster than anywhere else in Canada with tenants increasingly reporting rent increases over $400/month.
Then, the Panorama Court ACORN Tenant Union held an action outside their building at 617 15th Ave SW to fight back against 30% rent increases along with suffocating heat in the building due to a year long construction project.
Panorama Court Tenant Union Organizers are calling on their landlord (GWLRA) to officially recognize the ACORN tenant union and work with them to address the crisis in their building.
