Burnaby ACORN secures wins for Metrotown tenants!!

Burnaby ACORN fought long and hard to win the Tenant Assistance Policy in 2019, the best anti-demoviction protections in Canada. The protections that ACORN won are supposed to ensure tenants aren’t forced out of their neighborhoods by development. This last month ACORN Tenant Organizers Lili Wong and Marcella Zimmer made clear demands that developers and the City keep that promise in regards to their Metrotown apartment building.
Lili and Marcelle led ACORN at City Hall and demanded that tenants at their building get full compensation from the developer NO MATTER WHAT the developer says. The next week we got notice from the City that the developer would be forced to honour their obligations to all tenants, including Lili and Marcella.
Moving forward Lili and Marcella will be organizing to ensure that all Metrotown tenants get what they are entitled to in Burnaby’s Tenant Assistance Policy.
