Alberta Corporate Landlords Panic as Calls for Rent Control Grow
Posted October 31, 2022
ACORN members rallied outside Boardwalk’s head office in Calgary on Saturday, October 29th to demand Rent Control in the province of Alberta.
Members spoke about their own recent rent increases and the consequences they are having on low income families in Alberta.
Calgary recently has seen some of the largest rent increases in the country, with average rental prices rising 27% over the past year.
The Real Estate Investment Trust, Boardwalk has no doubt been a major contributor to this average, with tenants reporting rent increases as much as $500.
Although the REIT’s office is closed for tenants on Saturdays, Boardwalk officials made sure to be available to speak to the media, claiming that rent control will hurt tenants if enacted!
Stay tuned for more actions as Alberta ACORN keeps the pressure on for rent control.
