After pressure from ACORN, the Hamilton Community Benefits Network and Environment Hamilton, Hamilton moves forward on inclusionary zoning.
On Monday ACORN, HCBN and Environment Hamilton held a press conference outside City Hall and delegated to the LRT subcommittee to demand action on the promise for affordable housing from the LRT project.
Yesterday in response to community demands, a motion was passed at the Planning Committee to incorporate the development of an inclusionary zoning planning into work already being done for the city’s Official Plan and create a policy to indicate the city’s intent to implement inclusionary zoning.
This is a step is the right direction to speed up the process. Hamilton city staff had previously targeted 2023 to start looking at the policy.
ACORN will keep working with our allies to push for a bold inclusionary zoning policy this year!
