Today, ACORN members from across Southern Ontario came together to call on Doug Ford to Act NOW for Affordable, $10/day Childcare. Venetta, Alejandra, and Liz led the action, explaining that childcare fees are at a crisis level and in Toronto alone, there are 14,365 children on the waiting list for fee subsidy. We cannot wait any longer. ACORN members flooded the offices of Premier Doug Ford, Conservative MPP Donna Skelly, and Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce with phone calls to demand Ontario sign the federal deal for affordable childcare. Members found that Premier Doug Ford’s office was the most resistant to our cause while Conservative MPP Donna Skelly’s office was the most receptive.

This phone action came at a critical time – it was announced on Monday, January 24th that Nunavut had signed the deal with Ottawa, and Queen’s Park is close to a deal as well.

We need to pressure our Premier so he knows that Ontario families need this program! Members agreed to continue calling and sending emails to all three targets throughout this week as well as to encourage their friends and family to do the same!
