“2024 Rent Gouger of the Year Award” goes to Boardwalk!

After a month of nominations with our 2024 Rent Gouger of the Year competition, Alberta ACORN was proud to present the “2024 Rent Gouger of the Year” award to Boardwalk!
Boardwalk received this award for their commitment to creating a business out of rent gouging, displacing thousands of low and moderate income tenants from their communities as a result rent hikes and lease non-renewals, and destroying affordable housing across Alberta.
ACORN’s demands are clear:
- Permanent rent control
- Reform tenant laws to close any rent control loopholes
- Ban fixed term leases and strengthen eviction protections
