150+ Join the ‘Ottawa Against Bill 23 Rally’ To Protect Affordable Housing, Our Democracy and The Environment!

Posted December 7, 2022

On Dec 7th, 150+ ACORN members & allies stood together in solidarity to fight Doug Ford & Minister Steve Clark’s Bill 23.

The Province’s Bill 23 or the ‘More Homes, Built Faster Act’, will destroy affordable housing policies, erode tenant protections against demovictions, define affordable housing as 80% market rent which is NOT affordable, bankrupt municipalities, take away city powers and revenue sources, build on wetlands and expand the urban boundary.

Why? To line the pockets of Ford’s developer friends.

With deadlines for public consultation on the final policies and regulations for the bill fast approaching, Ottawa ACORN members spearheaded a BIG rally to fight back!

Special thanks to ACORN leaders, Sharon Katz & Marie Lourdes Garnier, for MC’ing today’s rally and keeping the energy and spirits HIGH with chants!

Big thank you to all of our co-hosts from Ecology Ottawa, Horizon Ottawa, CAWI, Reimagine Ottawa, The GreenSpace Alliance, CAFES Ottawa, For Our Kids Ottawa/Gatineau, The Council of Canadians- Ottawa and Councillors Shawn Menard, Ariel Troster, Sean Devine and Theresa Kavanagh for joining us.

And BIG thanks to all 150+ who came out.
