ACORN members had a great virtual action last week to stop predatory lending!
In response to our new report released back in February and many actions by ACORN members, the Federal Government has committed to launching a consultation on lowering the criminal interest rates for installment loans.
But the time is NOW to slash the criminal interest rates from 60% to 30%, we can’t continue to wait while so many families are having to rely on predatory lenders just to pay for essentials like rent or groceries.
Members made tons of calls and emails to our local MPs, Finance Minister, Prime Minister, and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. We were also joined by MP of New Westminster – Burnaby Peter Julian who has been a huge supporter of our Fair Banking campaign.
