Calgary Unites Against ADAP!

Posted February 3, 2026

Calgary ACORN hosted another successful rally to “Say No To ADAP” The new program that replaces AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped) as the default program for Albertans with disabilities. ADAP (Alberta Disability Assistance Program), cuts benefits for disabled people by $200 compared to AISH, and further claws back benefits for anyone who earns above $350 a month.

The UCP has targeted the disabled community for budget cuts, as if disability justice is merely a matter of budgetary convenience. Undeterred, Calgarians came out in their numbers to the North West AISH office to push back. The people united, unwilling to accept defeat.

Voices were loud, and demands were clear: Scrap ADAP. Improve AISH. Address the systemic barriers to employments for Albertans with disabilities. After an hour of rallying, chanting, and personal stories, ACORN members delivered a letter to AISH Staff addressed to Premier Danielle Smith with their demands.

Now is your turn to join the resistance!

Call on the provincial government to listen to the disabled community, get rid of ADAP, improve AISH, and to address systemic barriers to employment for disabled people by signing the online action!
