ACORN Hamilton Members Start 2026 With Citywide Planning Meeting

On January 8th, members from all 4 Hamilton chapters met for our annual start of the year planning meeting to debrief on 2025 and brainstorm campaigns for the new year. 51 members attended our hybrid meeting (33 in person, 18 online).
After reviewing campaign highlights from the past two years, leaders lead breakout groups to discuss next steps to win a max-heat bylaw, organizing during the October municipal election, narrowing down a new municipal campaign and provincial / federal priorities.
2025 highlights
- We organized 146 events, turning out 2252 members and allies!- Protected the Safe Apartment Bylaw from budget cuts- One year of the renoviction bylaw – zero successful N13 applications!- Worked with coalition to improve Fair Assist Program (starting this month 50% fare discount for disabled and low income riders)- We held days of provincial action to raise ODSP, rent control and against Bill 60- Days of national action for climate justice, against Adani group, fair banking and affordable housing
- Tenant organizing against no fault eviction – 53 households kept their affordable homes!
- Tenant organizing against AGIs – 8 applications reduced
