“After Bill 60 – Stopping the Eviction Wave” Ontario ACORN Zoom Meeting Recap
Posted December 16, 2025
ACORN members from across Ontario came together for a 150+ zoom meeting called “After Bill 60 – Stopping the Eviction Wave.” With the Ford government’s Bill 60 now passed, tenants are facing a new and urgent reality — faster, easier evictions that will push more people into homelessness unless we act.
The meeting focused on:
- Breaking down what Bill 60 means for tenants, and why the eviction crisis is about to get worse.
- Launching ACORN’s new provincial campaign for a Rent Grant Program — a real solution to keep tenants housed and prevent an eviction wave.
- Mobilizing tenants to take action in their communities through flyering, petitioning, contacting their representatives and more.
The Solution to Bill 60 Evictions: A Provincial Rent Grant Program
When tenants face unexpected emergencies like being laid off work, experience sudden illness or a death in the family, and fall temporarily short on rent, a rent grant can cover the gap. This emergency financial assistance would keep tenants housed, ensure landlords get paid (the government’s primary motivation behind Bill 60), and it would cost taxpayers far less than the spiraling costs of homelessness, shelters, and emergency services.
Bill 60 may have passed — but this campaign is about stopping its worst impacts before they devastate communities.

Hi, my name’s ____________ and I live in [your area]. I’m calling because I’m very concerned about the wave of evictions we’re going to see now that Bill 60 has passed. To prevent more people from sleeping on the streets, I’m urging you to support ACORN’s campaign for a provincial rent grant program for when tenants face unexpected emergencies and fall short on rent. This will make sure landlords get paid, tenants stay housed, and it will cost everyday taxpayers less than the cost of increased homelessness. You can call me back at [your number], or reach ACORN at 613-746-5999 ext. 3 or [email protected].
