Mountain ACORN Visits MPP Monica Ciriello’s Office to Deliver Provincial Platform

Posted July 23, 2025

On Wednesday, July 23rd, leaders from Hamilton ACORN’s Mountain chapter visited the new constituency office of MPP Monica Ciriello at 1030 Upper James St. to deliver a copy of ACORN’s provincial platform for tenant justice and a letter requesting a meeting.

Although the office was temporarily closed for renovations, our members made sure to tape the letter to the door and leave a copy in the mailbox.

ACORN members across Ontario are calling for urgent, meaningful reform to strengthen tenant protections and ensure safe, affordable, and secure housing. We’d love the opportunity to meet with MPP Ciriello and speak directly about the issues renters on the Mountain and across Hamilton are facing.

Some of the key priorities in ACORN’s provincial platform include:

  • Close loopholes in rent control that allow unlimited rent hikes between tenancies
  • Ban Above Guideline Rent Increases (AGIs) that push tenants out of their homes
  • Fix the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) by restoring fairness and making landlords prove good faith
  • Enforce existing laws with real consequences for landlords who neglect repairs or harass tenants
  • Expand access to legal supports and ensure tenants can meaningfully defend their rights

As tenants continue to feel the pressure of rising rents, disrepair, and unfair evictions, it’s more important than ever that our elected representatives hear from the communities most affected. We’re ready to work together on real solutions and we hope to speak with MPP Ciriello soon.
