Alberta ACORN takes action against grocery gouging

Posted July 30, 2024

On Saturday, July 27 ACORN members in Calgary marched to protest insanely high grocery costs. We marched between grocery stores from Shoppers to Save on Foods to Safeway and Calgary Co-op to deliver demand letters to store management. ACORN is calling on the Federal Government to:

  1. Tax excessive profits made by grocery chains.
  2. Place a cap on the price of essential food items, as has been done in several European countries.

We were able to get the attention of people on the street as cars honked in support and people signed our petition for more regulation as we marched to each store chanting for our right to be able to afford basic necessities. Members shared their experiences of how difficult it has become to be able to keep food on the table as the cost continues to go up while company profits are ridiculously high.
