Platform Launch & MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY to start looking into a Renoviction Bylaw in Ottawa!!!

Posted April 25, 2024

The day before Councillor Troster put forward a motion to look into a similar Renoviction Bylaw that Hamilton has for Ottawa, ACORN gathered outside of city hall to launch our Roadmap to ‘Save Affordable Housing’ Platform to make sure all members of the committee vote yes. Ottawa is losing affordable housing DRASTICALLY because of renovictions, demovictions, AGIs, and more! Ottawa City Council needs to do everything they can to stop the housing crisis, including ACORN’s 8 policy recommendations that starts with a Renoviction Bylaw. Read the other 7 policy recommendations in our report here: https://acorncanada.org/resources/save-affordable-housing-platform-april-2024/

Shoutout to ACORN leaders Sharon Katz and Eddy Roue for a smooth and powerful launch. Another big shoutout to ACORN members Dustin Munro and Tara Mills for sharing their experiences of renovictions. Thank you to Councillor Plante and Councillor Kavanagh for speaking in support at the platform launch.
