Great action on Thursday, January 20th at 641 Rideau Street fighting back against the demovictions that are set to take place!
Currently, there are 5 3 storey low rise buildings at 641-649 Rideau Street with below market rent. However, the property owner Theberge Homes wants to demolish these buildings and construct a luxury high rise that will be out of reach for the current tenants.
We had about 30 people out for the event today including ACORN members, tenants and former tenants of 641-649 Rideau Street and our allies at the Lowertown Community Association. There was also a representative from CTV, press to come!
Next steps are presenting at the City's Planning Committee meeting on January 27th to continue pressuring the City to reject the re-development application and to implement a strong anti-displacement policy in Ottawa!
