York West Chooses Their Campaign Direction
Posted January 21, 2026
York West members met back up on January 21st at the Jane & Finch Mall for their second organizing committee meeting! As part of the effort to strengthen local organizing in the Jane and Finch area, and building on the conversations had at the first meeting, members were ready to make decisions and move into action. After discussing the issues raised by their neighbours across the area, members unanimously voted to launch a campaign focused on building repairs and maintenance, which can also serve to further ACORN’s city wide campaigns on the same issues. New members from the Tobermory and Driftwood areas shared stories about long-standing maintenance problems in their buildings and the impact poor conditions have on daily life, especially for families, seniors, and low income tenants dealing with skyrocketing rental prices in buildings that haven’t seen upgrades in decades.
With a clear direction set, the group got cracking and planned an action to get the ball rolling on this campaign. Members agreed to take a quick action next week in a local building with a history of unresolved repair and maintenance issues, seeing it as an opportunity to put pressure on the landlord and show their neighbours what collective action can achieve!
