Toronto ACORN members held their Citywide Internet Affordability Forum on April 22, 2021!! What a great forum, thank you to all the 99 participants who attended our Internet Affrodability Forum and proved with their participation that it is urgent and our community needs affordable internet NOW!
Thank you Councillor Anthony Perruzza and Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam for speaking on this important issue of internet affordability. Thank you to the City of Toronto staff for speaking on ConnectTO and it’s possibilities! Thank you to our guest speakers Jamie Thom from ETT, Bianca Wylie, Toronto Mesh Network and Toronto Free Net for your time, participation and for being great allies.
BIG shoutout to all our Toronto ACORN members for their amazing leadership at the forum and for our #Internet4all campaign! ACORN members have been fighting for affordable internet for the community for a really long time. The city has finally addressed this issue through ConnectTO! But while they are still deciding what the program would look like, we need to make sure our low-moderate income communities, seniors, people on disability, lone parents etc are not excluded from the conversation. Thank you to our Toronto ACORN members for their heartfelt testimonials on their struggle with high price and low speed internet providers. We demand affordable Internet for low and moderate income communities, because it is essential and Internet access is no joke!
