ACORN members had a great rally outside of Toronto City Hall on June 14 to put pressure on the City to create a renoviction bylaw, similar to what BC ACORN won in New Westminster back in 2019.
Thirty members from across Toronto came out to join the rally and over fifteen deputed the same evening to the subcommittee on the protection of affordable rental housing.
We also released a new report on renovictions in Toronto and how the City can use municipal powers to protect tenants from landlords who use “major renovation work” as just another tactic to get long term tenants out and maximize profit.
ACORN members are looking forward to the report back in December from the City and will continue to organize to fight back against renovictions in our neighbourhoods.
