Toronto ACORN had an amazing action for Stopping the Superspreading on March 13th on 2021 at 12 pm. The Members in the Northwest region, gathered together at the Jane and Finch intersection to highlight the issue of overcrowding in buses. Our Leaders, Ria Rinne from Etobicoke and Shelly-Ann of York West led the march down the street of Jane and Finch highlighting the importance of needing more buses in these areas.
As the emergency lockdown comes to an end. There will be more people that will be in need of the buses. This will cause a lot of overcrowding and essential workers have no choice but to get on the bus. They are risking their lives and that is we demand:
Provide more buses on bus routes in the northwest of the City where COVID cases are the most high
Distribute masks on buses and TTC stations to ensure safety of all riders and operators
Increase bus service in high risk areas to ensure proper physical distancing is possible
Protect all transit workers – every transit worker should be paid for 14 sick days if they need to self-isolate.
To support these demands we had NDP Transit Critic, Tom Rakocevic and City Councillor, Anthony Perruzza to voice their concerns about the transit issue.
