Stoney Creek Chapter Organizing!

Posted June 23, 2026

On Tuesday June 23rd the Stoney Creek chapter held its June chapter meeting, successfully reaching quorum and holding the chapter board election. Downtown co-chair, Marc did an excellent job facilitating the election! It was extremely tight between all runners, resulting in three run-off elections. Despite the elongated process, the chapter voted in its new leaders. Congratulations to Hojay Byfield, who was elected as the new chair, Taylor Korolenchuk, who was elected as the new co-chair and Kent Hopper, elected as the new secretary.

After the election, members discussed local to national updates as well as next steps for the chapter. The members brainstormed more ideas for their next action which will be taking place on June 27th at 11:00 AM. The Stoney Creek March against AGI’s was decided on at the last chapter meeting. Members wanted to demand a provincial ban on AGI’s as many tenants in Stoney Creek are tired of these attacks on their affordable housing. AGI’s, also known as above guideline increases, allow landlords to squeeze out even more money from tenants for the sake of their own profit. Stoney Creek tenants are tired of the government siding with corporate landlords and have put this action together to demand that AGI’s be banned all across Ontario! We will be marching in the Riverdale community, starting at 40 Grandville Ave and then making stops at 9 Riverdale Dr. and 7 Catalina Dr, while having member testimonials, chants, and letter drops at each building. In all three buildings, tenants are tired of receiving AGI’s so we are asking Hamilton to march with us in solidarity!

We need the government to side with the people instead of putting tenant money into the pockets of these landlords for the sake of private profit. Stoney Creek will be here to keep the fight up for our housing rights!

The Stoney Creek chapter is taking on a very strong organizing role this month. We can’t wait to see what other things they have in store for us especially with this new board! Members will meet again next month at Dominic Agostino Riverdale Community Centre!
