People’s Assembly for Healthy Homes!

TORONTO, ON— We filled the room with ACORN members and people power (inviting Councillor Josh Matlow, Councillor Paula Fletcher’s staffers, and Toronto Environmental Alliance – TEA)! 2025 has been chock-full of wins – including the colour-coded signs (inspired by DineSafe) that were passed in Council just a few weeks ago.

We had this meeting to not only celebrate this incredible win, but to build more momentum on our campaigns: “Give RentSafeTO more teeth” and “Beat the Heat.” We contextualized what has been happening on-the-ground from Bergamot Ave to 500 Dawes Rd. Tens of building actions across the City.

Two Mayor’s walkthroughs. Pledges and petitions signed. These actions laid the groundwork to what would unfold on September 25th: A press conference that will shine a light on Phase 2 Recommendations of the Property Standards Bylaw Review, with motions baked in to strengthen remedial action (when the City steps in to do outstanding repairs, billing the landlord on their property taxes).
