Ottawa ACORN Members Kick Off Municipal Election Outreach Parties!

Last Saturday, August 13th 8 Ottawa ACORN members kicked off our #Agenda4Change Municipal Election Outreach Parties in the lowertown/sandy hill community! We had great weather and an awesome day doorknocking, flyering, and street petitioning! Our leaders, Norma and Lauren, did an amazing job running the agenda and all eight members did great as we collected 34 petition signatures for the Agenda for Change Platform Launch.

Why do outreach? Outreach parties offer a unique opportunity to connect with neighbours and the community about the most important issues that affect their day-to-day lives like housing, transit, childcare and more! The more people we reach, the  likely we can create the change we want to see across the city of Ottawa.

We will be doing member outreach parties every other Saturday for the duration of the election cycle (Now-Oct. 24th)! Join us at our next Outreach Party on Saturday, August 27th from 11:30-3:00, at the Ottawa ACORN office (404 McArthur Ave.) as we get the vote out in Vanier!

What is the Agenda for Change? It is Ottawa ACORN’s grassroots municipal election campaign. We are getting out the vote in low income and working class neighbourhoods and asking candidates to endorse our Platform of Issues to ensure that potential councillors support the progressive issues our ACORN members care about. We sent out our platform through a candidates survey and are waiting back on the responses from the candidates before releasing the results. We will share candidates’ responses before October 24th with our membership so they can make informed decisions at the polling station.
