NS ACORN welcomes back MLA’s, calls for immediate action to end the eviction crisis

Today over 70 people gathered in front of Province house in downtown Halifax to fight for the rights of tenants in the province.

ACORN members and allies joined together to protest fixed-term leases, renovictions, and the Houston Government’s unwillingness to fund affordable public housing.
Politicians entering the house had no choice but to face these issues head-on as our members chanted and waved signs to hurry them on their way.

ACORN was joined by the Nova Scotia NDP who have committed to making eviction protections one of their legislative priorities. The Oceanbreeze Resident Association and other great advocacy groups who are just as sick and tired of the government’s stalling and inaction came out in support as well.

We had excellent speeches from Lisa Hayhurst, the leader of our Dartmouth chapter, Charlotte Reid, a new member we recently organized with, as well as Heather Clark and the NDP MLA for Halifax Needham, Suzy Hansen.
