Falstaff Tenants Demand Meeting with TCHC Leadership!
Posted March 11, 2026
Toronto, Ontario – On Wednesday, March 11th, more than 20 ACORN members and tenants (plus some kidlets!) met on Falstaff Avenue. The Toronto Community Housing Corporation buildings here (20, 30, and 40 Falstaff Ave) need serious attention.
Tenants have the same stories again and again: they are being disrespected by the Toronto employees at the TCHC HUB at 30 Falstaff Ave whose job is to help the COMMUNITY. The failure needs to be remedied from the top down, which is why we sent a letter to the MP, the MPP, and the CEO of Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Sean Baird.
We’re demanding a meeting with TCHC to revisit issues Sean Baird has already promised to remedy back in 2024, including a promise of quarterly meetings with ACORN leaders.
Tenants were loud and clear: respect is a two way street.
Generally, old issues continue; repairs aren’t getting done, it’s freezing cold in the winter, boiling hot during the summertime, and there is no sense of safety. Six people are forced to live in 2 bedroom units, while others have been on a 4 year waitlist just to transfer within TCHC for safety reasons.
A woman was berated publicly by staff from the HUB and threatened with eviction when she called the Community Safety Unit because someone was in the stairwell drinking alcohol and doing drugs. Again, unacceptable behaviour from TCHC staff.
Falstaff is a vibrant community of people who work hard, and who want their families to live in a safe and comfortable space. They want to socialize and utilize amenity spaces (that are long overdue for renovations), but aren’t able to because there is zero support from staff. This is supposed to be part of the TCHC model, but it is failing miserably.
Sadly, these issues are not an anomaly. TCHC, and all landlords, need to be held accountable.
