Residents of the Jane and Finch community, along with Acorn members continue to rally together to give out information on unfair increases in rent, and evictions amid a global pandemic. The housing crisis had affected many families, residents and members of the Jane and Finch community, as they were not aware that a sudden increase in rent was about to strike.
Four Acorn members gathered on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 amid the housing crisis in the community of Jane and Finch. There had been a sudden increase in rent on apartments in the Jane and Finch area and eviction notices had been posted for residents who could not pay the new increased rent prices. They did this to raise awareness for the right to liveable housing as it’s not fair for residents struggling during a global pandemic.
This hasn’t been the first time the community had been impacted by a housing crisis, on June 23, 2017 allies and residents of the Jane and Finch community held a protest to combat against unfair closures in over 100 housing units.
It’s sad to see that this community is still struggling with affordable housing. ACORN, along with several other community organizations continues to fight against these growing issues, as our most vulnerable communities are struggling to make ends meet.
