Carlington ACORN Celebrates Community Investment Victories! – ACORN Carlington célèbre ses victoires d’investissement communautaires!

After a lively community meeting, Carlington ACORN Chapter Chair Diane Rochon wrote to City Councillor Maria McRae on April 1, 2014, requesting action on street lights and better lighting further into the intersection of Caldwell Ave and Merivale Rd (approx.100 meters in, near the bus stop; this also includes the start of Medford St) to improve visibility and safety at night. Rochon also requested a “children at play” sign, which would help drivers to slow their vehicles and be mindful of children playing.
We are pleased to announce that the councillor has followed up with our members as of May 13th 2014, and she has worked with us on the following victories:
-installing a speed board bracket on Caldwell
-a “Children at Play” sign on Caldwell (placement soon)
-litter cleaning in Caldwell area (which is densely populated with our members)
-LED Lighting Pilot Project: Caldwell area will be the test site (the councillor will follow up with members about the launch of this)
Chapter Secretary Rose Ingrid-Garcia led our neighborhood audit later in April to further inform the city of what investments Carlington ACORN needs.

Après une rencontre communautaire animée, Diane Rochon, présidente du Chapitre ACORN Carlington, a écrit à la Conseillère Maria McRae, le 1er avril 2014, lui demandant de passer à l’action à propos de l’amélioration de l’éclairage de rue à l’intersection de l’avenue Caldwell et de la rue Merivale (à peu près 100 mètres, proches de l’arrêt d’autobus) pour améliorer la visibilité et la sécurité durant la nuit. Mme Rochon a aussi demandé un panneau de signalisation « Ralentissez — attention à nos enfants » qui préviendrait les conducteurs de la présence possible d’enfants et leur permettrait de ralentir.
Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer que la conseillère a fait un suivi avec nos membres au 13 mai 2014 et qu’elle nous a aidés à remporter les victoires suivantes :
– Installation d’un support à panneau de vitesse sur Caldwell
– Un panneau de signalisation « Ralentissez – attention à nos enfants » sur Caldwell (sera bientôt affiché)
– Nettoyage des ordures dans les environs de Caldwell (qui est densément peuplé de nos membres)
– Projet pilote éclairage DEL : la zone de Caldwell sera le terrain d’essai (la conseillère fera un suivi avec les membres à propos du lancement de ce projet)
La Secrétaire de Chapitre Rose Ingrid-Garcia a entrepris une vérification du quartier plus tard en avril et informera la ville de quels investissements ACORN Carlington a besoin.
