ACORN Demands Hamilton City Council Fund Tenant Protections at Public Delegations for 2024 Budget

Posted November 13, 2023

Monday November 6th Hamilton ACORN members Christine Neale and Marnie Schurter delegated to City Hall, urging City Council to include critical local ACORN policy wins in the city’s 2024 budget, including the Safe Apartments Bylaw, the proposed anti-renoviction bylaw protections due to report back in January, and the new Tenant Support Program.

The city also heard delegations from ACORN allies Ted Hildebrandt from the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton, Karl Andrus from Hamilton Community Benefits Network, and Ian Borsuk from Environment Hamilton.

Tenants in Hamilton have been organizing for these protections since 2017 and funding them is a VITAL step in bringing Hamilton to the forefront of tenant rights in Canada!

The next public delegation day will be on Tuesday January 16th. Members interested in showing support can reach out to ACORN Hamilton.
