ACORN 101 Workshop: Building ACORN Power in New Ontario Cities
Posted December 13, 2025
On Saturday, ACORN hosted an online ACORN 101 workshop, bringing together 28 participants from Ontario cities without ACORN offices to learn more about the organization, its mission, and how members can get involved in building people power.
The workshop introduced participants to ACORN’s core values and organizing model, highlighting how collective action can drive real change on issues such as housing affordability, tenant protections, and economic justice. Attendees also learned about current campaigns and ways to get involved at both the local and provincial levels.
The ACORN 101 session played an important role in welcoming new members across multiple cities, developing community leadership, and expanding our capacity to organize against Doug Ford’s attacks on tenant rights and affordable housing.
Big shout out to emerging ACORN leaders Krista McCabe (St Catharine’s), Penny Omerod (Niagara Region) & Drew Roberts (Peterborough) for leading the workshop. Also a huge thank you to Tanya Burkart from Peel ACORN who took the time to help lead on convention details & the question period!
