Residents of 80 units in the Sandalwood area of Herongate have been told they will not get an extension on their eviction date.
A rally was held Thursday afternoon organized by Acorn to fight a winter eviction.
Residents have been told by the property owner that have until the end of February to move out because of a proposed re-development but residents are hoping they can get that eviction date moved to June.
Some are arguing that moving in the winter poses difficulty because of bad weather and mobility issues while other say they want their kids to finish their school year without changing schools.
Acorn tenant representative Mavis Finnamore is among those covered in the eviction tells 1310NEWS they wrote to Timbercreek asking to have the eviction date moved to June and received a response on Wednesday.
“They still insist that people have to move out by the end of February. They didn’t change that at all” says Finnamore.
“They seem to think that offering the money will make things better.”
Timbercreek has offered three months rent-free and a $1,500 moving allowance.
The incentives will be paid out to tenants after their keys are turned in.
