Firm Capital cancels on 2255 Weston Rd. tenants. Tenants organize anyway!
Posted October 13, 2026
Tenants at 2255 Weston Road were supposed to meet with their landlord, Firm Capital, on October 13th to get answers about their demands for a rent freeze, and prompt repairs. Instead, on October 11th, they received an email canceling the meeting — along with a message that there would be no further meetings at the building. This came after tenants had spent weeks organizing for the meeting. Shame!
Moreso, tenants have spent months organizing around serious maintenance and health and safety concerns, while also fighting Firm Capital’s third consecutive Above-Guideline Rent Increase (AGI). Some tenants face increases as high as 7.5%, or more than $200 for some residents.
At their September negotiating meeting, tenants pushed for action on issues including pests, mold, heating, elevators and unfinished flooring. Firm Capital agreed to revisit the AGI and look into tenants’ other demands, but refused to put its commitments in writing.
Now, rather than sitting down with tenants to work through these issues together, management is directing residents to submit individual complaints and has shut the door on further meetings.
But canceling a meeting doesn’t make these problems disappear! And tenants REFUSE to be divided.
Weston ACORN members still came together on October 13th. Margaret Manning, Susan Cox and others led a meeting. With Firm Capital absent, tenants discussed management’s response and held a work order blitz, documenting outstanding repairs and preparing to push for action.
Tenants pay rent every month. They shouldn’t have to chase management individually just to get basic repairs done — especially while being asked to pay more in rent year after year.
ACORN will continue supporting tenants to follow up on their work orders, escalate unresolved issues and keep fighting for a fair outcome on the AGI. And as the members said, if we need to, we’ll take it to the LTB!
Firm Capital may have canceled the meeting, but 2255 Weston tenants are still here, and they’re not giving up.
ACORN strong, all day long!
