Last night, 20 Ontario At- Large ACORN members from 12 cities across the province came together for a powerful group meeting!
Members shared what’s happening in their cities, talked about the issues tenants are facing, Sudbury tenants are facing pest infestations, harassment from management, chronic flooding and more. Chatham members are actively fighting a renoviction that would take away 2-3 Bedroom family units and turn them into studio apartments! These are just a few of the things ACORN’s Ontario At- Large Group is helping organize around. Members also participated in online actions, and worked together on plans to keep building tenant power across Ontario.
And the organizing doesn’t stop when the meeting ends!
Last weekend, Stacey Semple, Chair of ACORN’s Downtown Chapter, headed to Sudbury to work alongside Carrie-Lynn Cusson and Mel Leplante, sharing organizing skills and helping build the foundation for stronger tenant organizing in Sudbury.
Together, they got out into the community and practiced door-knocking, tabling, outreach and recruitment, and even met with MPP Jaime West to raise the issues Sudbury tenants are facing.
