Tenant Defense Action To Stop London Senior’s Eviction!
Posted August 25, 2026
Darcy Barnes, a 63-year-old ACORN member living with severe osteoarthritis and awaiting double hip surgery, is the last remaining resident at 34 Adelaide St S. Landlord Scott Wilson served him three separate N13 demolition eviction notices claiming his unit needed to be merged with Unit 3. But Unit 3 was simply renovated and re-rented for nearly double the price, from $600 to $1,100 – while Darcy was told his own rent would jump to $1,500 to stay. The LTB ignored this evidence and told Darcy he’d need to be out of his apartment by the end of August.
N13 notices, meant for demolition, conversion, or major renovations, are increasingly being used by landlords to displace long-term, low-income tenants and replace them with units at higher rent. With both the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) and City failing to protect tenants from landlords exploiting the loopholes in provincial rent control laws and municipal renoviction protections, ACORN members stepped up to demand municipal accountability and immediate housing support for Darcy.
Today, ACORN rallied outside Darcy’s building demanding an immediate end to his bad-faith eviction before he’s left homeless on September 1st.
We’re calling on London’s municipal leaders to:
- Get Darcy housed now: Ensure Darcy receives suitable housing and compensation from his landlord immediately.
- Pass a demoviction/rental replacement bylaw: Guarantee tenants displaced by demolition the right to return, temporary accommodations and rent gap payments, moving costs covered, and rents held at similar rates – closing the loophole in London’s renoviction bylaw that let this happen to Darcy in the first place.
London Free Press and CTV were on hand to cover the action, and we’re not backing down! Every tenant deserves a home they can’t be pushed out of on a landlord’s technicality.
