Final Countdown: Kitchener Tenants Need a STRONG Renoviction Bylaw!
Posted March 25, 2026
ACORN members across Kitchener hit the phones yesterday, calling local councillors ahead of Monday’s BIG VOTE on the city’s proposed renoviction bylaw.
While we’ve forced City Hall to the table, the current staff recommendation is missing the “teeth” needed to actually stop mass displacement. We don’t just want a bylaw—we want one that protects tenants and our existing affordable housing.
ACORN is demanding that on Monday, City Council passes a bylaw that includes:
- Temporary accommodations and rent gap payments for tenants while renovations take place.
- Moving costs are covered.
- Implementation starts this summer – not next year!
It’s all hands on deck till the final vote! Here’s how you can help:
- Join the rally on Monday March 30th at 5PM outside of City Hall (200 King St W, Kitchener)
- Sign up to delegate in support! You’ll have max 5 mins to speak to the committee. It’s easy and makes a big difference! Just register in advance here: https://www.kitchener.ca/council-and-city-administration/council-and-committee-meetings/appear-as-a-delegation/
- Call city councillors to share why you think they should vote YES! Don’t know what to say? See the example message below.
