62 Glen Everest Work Order Blitz
Posted February 20, 2026
ACORN Members and fellow tenants of 62 Glen Everest came together to take action against their neglectful landlord. For years tenants have been forced to live in unfit conditions, from black mold spreading throughout their units, ceilings caving in, leaks, electrical flare ups, a lingering demolition order and a property manager who’s only response is “You’re shit out of luck.” And slaps an eviction notice on anyone who tries to speak out. Tenants were tired and done waiting for change, so they made it happen themselves.
Our leaders encouraged their neighbours to vocalize the issues they were having in their units without fear. We had an open floor discussion that led to an empowering action. Tenants filled out work orders and together delivered them to the superintendent’s office.
We had the city councillor’s representative speak on behalf of Parthi Kandavel – the Scarborough Southwest city councillor – to explain to tenants the state of the building and the development plans made by the building owner ALTR, and property management MINT. He took notes, answered every question the tenants had and even stayed behind to hear the concerns of those who had more to say after the meeting. Furthermore, if the landlord does not respond to the work orders submitted, he has offered to escalate them at the city level to ensure all tenants get their repairs and more done.
Apart from the action, tenants met neighbours they’d only pass by in the lobby. People who’d lived across from each other for years spoke for the first time, and everyone felt a sense of community. Leaders felt a sense of pride being able to help organise and empower their neighbours. Not only did this action help bring to light the neglect of the building but it planted the seed for connection.
