ACORN Mountain DiCenzo Tenant Union Anti-Condoviction Action Had Landlord On The Run!

Posted July 5, 2024

On July 3, over 40 ACORN members, tenants, and community members came together at the head office of local landlord and developer, DiCenzo Homes, to demand an end to the sale of their affordable townhomes! In April, the tenants of 20 Anna Capri Drive found out in the same piece of letterhead that not only are their units potentially condo units, they also found out that DiCenzo intends to begin selling off ALL of the units across 3 townhome surveys! This act of financialized tenant displacement would remove more than 100 affordable 3-bedroom units from the local housing market, and displace HUNDREDS of low and moderate income families, all in the name of maximizing profits! SHAME!

When we discovered that DiCenzo had an overnight change of heart about their summertime office hours, we marched to 88 Tunbridge Crescent where we asked contractors to call up the owners and request they come by and meet with us. The crowd held strong and planned followup strategies while we waited – until a team spotted the property manager hiding in his truck around the corner, hoping we’d leave! We didn’t let him drive away until we delivered our demands in the form of filling his truck bed with demand letters! DiCenzo can consider themselves served, and the Mountain ACORN DiCenzo Tenant Union is NOT going anywhere!
