Grassroots advocates from Toronto ACORN came together at Nathan Phillip’s Square to pressure the City of Toronto’s executive committee to pass the vacant-home tax proposal with a higher tax rate, which has been implemented in Vancouver, BC. If the proposal is approved, the city stands to gain $55-$66 million in tax revenues per year, and this fund would be utilized for affordable housing projects.
