Toronto Wants ACORN Members' Input on Landlord Licensing

Posted August 12, 2016

Toronto ACORN members recently won a key vote at City Hall and they're moving forward on our demand to license landlords and hold them accountable for maintenance and repairs. You can read more about landlord licensing here, and check out some of the press we got about the vote here.
The City will be holding public meetings across Toronto for landlords and tenants to design the program. We need to make sure ACORN members are at these meetings to make sure the best possible program is created.
This is an important opportunity to spell out exactly what we want to require from our landlords in order to collect our rent. ACORN members know best the kinds of things that can go wrong in buildings and what maintenance and repairs landlords need to be forced to do. Let's come together and design a great program for all renters in Toronto!
We also need to make sure that landlords and their paid lobbyists can't stop the program or mess it up. Landlords hate the idea of being held accountable and will be fighting hard the whole way.
Wear your ACORN shirt if you have it, or buy one at cost at the meeting. We're going to send a message that our voices matter and we demand respect.
