Take action for affordable housing and tenant protections

Time is running out to take action for affordable housing and tenant rights

On January 17th, ACORN member across Ontario delivered hundreds of submissions to their MPPs, emphasizing the importance of tenant protections and the need for affordable housing. The Province is undertaking a consultation on increasing housing supply right now but unfortunately, the consultation ignores the needs of low and moderate income tenants, and instead focuses on increasing powers for developers by “cutting red tape”. This is a big red flag for tenants who have already had their rights attacked when the government cancelled rent control on new units.

Can you take action today in solidarity with ACORN members in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton and Peel?

I will deliver a letter to my MPP

We’re in the midst of a housing crisis. Rents have never been higher across the province. With almost 50 per cent of Ontario renters -- 709,245 households -- living in unaffordable housing, tenants need more protections not less. Stronger tenant protections, including rent controls, help people sustain their homes, providing security for tenants and landlords.

Can you help us fight for affordable housing and better tenant protections?

I will call my MPP

The five areas of focus in the consultation (speed, mix, cost, rent and innovations) are a developer’s dream list, so ACORN is collecting hundreds of tenant submissions to the consultation to make sure that tenants are heard loud and clear. We need more affordable housing and tenants need to be protected... NOT just new powers for the private sector.

I will make a submission to the consultation online
