Surrey ACORN launches Stand Up for Housing campaign

Posted August 10, 2020

Did you hear that  Surrey ACORN launched a new campaign and report called Stand Up for Housing?
Stand Up for Housing, is all about forcing the City of Surrey to use the powers it does have to end the housing crisis. Surrey’s Mayor Doug McCallum has a long history of allowing developers to do whatever they want In the city and BC ACORN is saying it's past time for that to end.
From renovictions and demovictions, to non-existent enforcement of property standards, the City of Surrey needs a wake up call on housing.
ACORN is calling for the City of Surrey to do the following:
  1. Update Apartment Standards of Maintenance Laws!  Currently these laws are woefully inadequate and do not cover basic repairs.
  2. License Landlords!  By replicating the New Westminster Renoviction Bylaw the City of Surrey would stop renovictions and ensure that buildings were kept up to livable standards.
