Social Justice Organizer – Summer Student (Halifax)

 
ACORN Canada is looking for motivated students interested in fighting and winning local, and national social justice campaigns in Halifax and Nova Scotia 
 
ACORN Canada is made up of more than 51,000 low- and moderate-income member families, in 21 local chapters of ACORN throughout the country, organized democratically through community organizing. 
 
We are hiring for organizers to work and build campaigns such as:
-Tenant’s rights, and livable wages, and affordable housing 
 
Duties: Organizers carry out a variety of outreach and organizing activities related to current ACORN campaigns and projects; including door knocking, house meetings, phone banks, grassroots fundraising, mass meetings, and actions! Community Organizers work to recruit new members, help mobilize for community change, develop new grassroots leadership, and conduct campaigns around community issues. Organizers work on local, city-wide, province wide, and national campaigns.
 
This is a full-time position with a heavy focus on outreach.
The position will pay $10.40/hr at 30 hours a week for 13 weeks.
 
Requirements: No formal experience is necessary, but exceptional interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to social justice are required. Our members seek staff that can manage projects, listen to the community and take initiative to help build the work of the organization. Training is provided.
