Members door knock for justice #FordFightback

ACORN members door knock for justice
As part of its monthly Ford Fight Back series, ACORN members across Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto got together and knocked on doors in Doug Ford's home turf!

In Hamilton, ACORN members petitioned in Upper Stoney Creek to talk to potential voters about failure of the province's current rent control laws. Members knocked in a housing co-op and engaged with homeowners in the neighborhood. Despite the freezing temperatures, folks were happy to talk to us about the lack of affordable housing in Hamilton and the need for the government to protect tenants! Members plan to come back to MPP Donna Skell'y riding for more door knocking for justice!

In Toronto, ACORN members door knocked Doug Ford’s home turf in Etobicoke last night getting tenants to sign petitions supporting REAL rent control and demanding that Doug Ford steps up and protect tenants from out of control rent increases. Members door knocked in pairs and got 20 signatures to support ACORN’s rent control campaign. We also invited tenants out to the next local chapter meeting and the big rally coming up in March!

In Ottawa, ACORN members split into pairs after learning how to canvas to knock on doors in Ottawa-West Nepean. Doug Ford's party only won the riding in the 2018 election by 200 votes so members decided to speak to tenants in the region to tell them what Ford has really done for them! Ottawa ACORN received so much support from tenants living in Accora Village for our provincial housing campaigns - they signed petitions, called their local MPP Jeremy Roberts and took flyers for our upcoming bus trip to Toronto for our provincial rally for real rent control!

Members will continue to fight for social justice.
